Dell is recommending a repair install here, but I am hesitating to go through
that hassle: My DVD burner was not being recognized anymore in all my Roxyo
burning programs. Up to now I changed the drive, updated the firmware,
updated the bios,
deinstalled the burning software, installed new burning software, removed
upper and lower filters in registry for the drive, still: When I insert a CD,
and burn with the windows own burning device, the CD it is being burnt but
DVDs cause an error ( not mentioned which one).

Now what...?

Thanks

The CD part and the DVD part use separate lasers, the DVD part can die
and the CD part will still work. Take Dell up on their offer to repair it.

Bob, 'repair install' refers to the OS, so far three different DVD burners
showed the same symptoms, we can assume that they are OK..

Thanks

I don't know what else to tell you I presume you have done the
Uninstall, reinstall routine on the unit. A Repair install would be the
next least invasive fix.
