I recently upgraded my HW to an Asus Dual core chip and run XP SP2
Since doing so, my DVD burner seems to become a CD burner as soon as I put
in a blank DVD of any kind.
I have now upgraded the DVD burner to a new burner and the same thing happens.
I formatted (again) and re-installed the basic XP SP2 with it's 90 or so
updates and the same thing happens.
the DVd is on a single ribbon cable as a slave with a hard drive.
I can access the media in the drive if it contains data in DVD or CD format.
I just can't burn to a DVD. :-(
Can anyone help with this please? Even the store where I bought the hardware
is not able to help with this issue.

To burn DVDs you need thrid-party software, like Easy CD Creator or Nero.

If you have such software, contact their support group for help.

If you have no such software, get some. Note that there are some freeware
programs that might do what you want. Try looking at:

The issue is that as soon as I put in a blank DVD, the system tree which
shows the DVD is there, changes to a CD
Third party software has had this issue with my Lightscribe DVD that I just
bought and the DVD that I had before it.
this all started when I upgraded my MB/CPU/RAM to the dual core
