Hello! I am having a problem that I have been trying to fix for some time now. I am not that much of a computer savvy guy, so bare with me. Here's my situation:
I had an old desktop in my closet that I had forgot about. I was cleaning the closet out when I came upon it. I use a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop, so I decided to have this as a desktop. It had Service Pack 3 of Windows XP installed, and since support for Windows XP was cut, I decided to install Windows 7 onto it. The desktop is 64 bit, some info:
AMD Athlon 3700+ 64-bit Processor
2.20 GHz
200 GB Hard Drive
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Emachines
Now, I hadn't used this in years, so I did not know, or remember, why I had Windows XP 32-bit installed, even though it is 62 Bit capable. I tried to install Windows 7 64 bit with my CD, and kept getting errors (something like it is not compatible with my version of Windows) I tried booting to CD, and opening CD after booting, neither would work. I decided to try my 32 Bit CD instead. It worked on boot and I was able to successfully install windows 7 32 bit on this desktop (The desktop is old, I believe from 2005 or 2004).
After installing the OS, I was completely dumbfounded on what to do with drivers. The previous Drivers were all deleted (formatted hard drive with custom install of windows) I cannot for the life of me find any CD for the old drivers, so I decided to look them up. I used the programs, "CPU-Z" and "Aida" to see what exact hardware I had to get drivers for.
I successfully got Nvida and a couple other drivers, but I hit a snag with the processor. I downloaded the 32 bit AMD Driver off of Emachines website for my specific pc, and kept getting this error when trying to install it, "This operating system is not supported by the Athlon 64 processor Driver"
My knowledge in driver information and processors is severely lacking, I need to install a driver for my AMD cpu but cannot download the one that is meant for this hard drive because it seems to not be compatible with the os installed.
Any information or help will be greatly appreciated!
