You are going to the window that opens when you type CMD? In that
window, at the C:\ prompt, you are typing just a command name and you
get an "incorrect DOS version"? What commands are you typing?

I'm trying to use FDISK.EXE.

FDISK.EXE should be run from a bootable DOS floppy, not from a Vista command
prompt.

But, the Vista CD contains equivalent (maybe betters) tools for partitioning
a hard drive. See the following link for more information.

Alternatively, download and burn a generic bootable CD with disk tools, such
as the free Ultimate Boot CD, which contains an advanced version of FDISK
and some related programs:

I asked three questions. You answered only one.

Here's a fourth question: what are you trying to do with fdisk? Please
answer that as well as the other questions I asked.

Fdisk is not part of Windows XP and normally has to be run after
booting from a DOS boot diskette containing it. Windows XP has its own
partitioning tools, and fdisk shouldn't be needed.
