All of a sudden my disc drive does not work. When I put a disc in and try to
start my DVD player it says "No Disc In Drive". When I go into My Computer
the name of my drive is no longer listed. So I went into Device Manager and
the drive name has an exclamation mark. When I right click it and select
properties I get this message: "Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I have
tried the troubleshooter and gone to Averatec's website and found no
solutions.

If device mgr lets you, simply R.click on the hardware, select "uninstall",do
not
restart pc,exit device, exit xp,power off pc.Move the drive to another IDE
connection on 1 of the cables, set jumper pins as needed to all drives
involved,
restart pc.XP will reinstall on restart..Also,if you own a liteonit dvd or
cd drive
(some mfg use thier brand name-hp,etc),go to litonit web site, locate youre
model
number,download the firmware for it....

Make sure you have the drivers for the device on hand before doing the below. They
will be on a disk provided with the PC, device or can be obtained from the
manufacturers support site.

In Device Manager expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right click on the device which has the conflict.
In the popup menu click Uninstall.
Once uninstalled click on the "monitor with magnifying glass" icon at the top to scan
for hardware changes.
Your device driver should be redetected and the drivers reinstalled.

If that fails to produce results, boot to Safe Mode > Device Manager.
In Device Manager expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Uninstall Any/All DVD/CD-ROM devices listed.
Close out of DM.
Open either MyComputer or Explorer.
Delete the contents of:
c:\documents and settings\your username folder\local settings\temp
c:\windows\temp
c:\prefetch
Close out of MyComputer or Explorer and reboot.
Windows should redetect the device during boot and reinstall the drivers.

I do not have the drivers for this device. I did not receive any discs when I
purchased my laptop and I am not getting any luck with the company's website.
The disc drive is made by NEC model# ND-6650A and whenever I try to go to the
downloads page on their support website I get an "HTTP 500 Internal Server
Error" page.
