Difference(s) between Windows Easy Transfer and Laplink PCMover Express?

With the end of support for XP now just a month away, Microsoft recently announced a new way to help users migrate from XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8: Laplink's PCMover Express.


Windows Easy Transfer -- which has been Microsoft's solution for years -- is still available. As far as I know, WET also works from XP to 8, although all of the links that claim to explain how to move data from XP to 8 (such as the links on this page) point to "How to use SkyDrive OneDrive" rather than WET.


So what's the difference between PCMover Express and WET (I realize that the not-free PCMover Pro purports to move programs as well as data)?


If people ask how they should move from XP, what should we tell them?
