Hi,

To anyone who can help me,it all started a month ago , I was trying to
backup some information to an DVD-R disc which said it was also for backing
up data. I downloaded Roxio CD creator ( which as out of date) since I never
download music. Well when I went to backup my data, which was not sucessful,
the floppy section started making a loud noise. I thought it was strange it
would make a noise when I was even using it. also when it made the noise a
windows intaller box would pop up when I visited a site or opened my email.
The sound got so annoying that I deleted windows installer in my add or
remove programs section of the control panel. Now I can't download anything
including any updates including one that keeps popping up ,KB110806 which
says it could not be downloaded bacause I must be in safe mode which I am not
in. Please help!! I am not a computer whiz but I can get around pretty easy
to fix things I have goofed up on.
Thanks so much for your help and your input.

Type these three words into a Google search box:

download windows installer

There is lots of very useful stuff on the very first page! If you
can't download the file yourself, do it on a friend's machine.

I went to Google and typed what you said and it says that I have a newer
version on my computer. I also downloaded the 3.1 didtribution and that
didn't help either.
Please advise.

It seems you still have some residues of Windows Installer on your
PC. Here are a couple of options I can think of:
- Use System Restore to go back to a point before your problems
started. This should restore Windows Installer to full functionality.
- Uninstall Windows Installer via the Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs, then install the downloaded version.

I tried system restore several times to no avail and I'm not seeing windows
installer in my add or remove programs. I went and deleted for disc space the
best restore point several weeks ago. Some things install thru the computer,
its just software that runs in the d drive.

On my own machine I can see "Windows Installer" in the Add/Remove
Programs panel. If you still cannot see it then type this in a Google
search window:

remove "Windows Installer"

and try the most promising entries.

After you have successfully removed it, you can re-install it using
the dowloaded package from the link I gave you previously.

I thought that was what my problem was initially a couple weeks ago. I had never had that box come up that says preparing to install until that day. I am at my wits end. I have tried for 2 weeks to fix this problem.
