Delayed Write Failure

I have suddenly started getting a message saying "Delayed Write Failure". It tells me that downloads cannot be saved in the file I've always used. I tried doing a sytem restore to a time before i was receiving them to no avail. Can you please tell me what it means and how to correct it. Thanks
