I haven't been able to open attachments or download programs. I found out
that a file(?) is empty in the Defender program. Mpoav.dll, I think is the
problem. Do I need a Defender media to fix the problem? With help I tried
to restore everything from back to when the problem started. Since I am not
good with the technical end of this, I hope I am describing the problem
properly. Any help will be appreciated

Try this first, Bette:

Open an Elevated Command Prompt [ Start Search > type in cmd > click
Search > *right* click cmd and choose 'Run as administrator ]

At the prompt, type in the following and then press Enter

winmgmt /verifyrepository

Wait awhile ... If WMI repository is reported to be inconsistent, type
in and then press Enter

winmgmt /salvagerepository

or, you can stop the service, rename the wbem depository, and then
restart the system by entering the following, pressing Enter after each
command

net stop winmgmt /y
cd %windir%\system32\wbem\
ren repository repository.old

Restart the system now.

If the file in question is indeed 'empty', then run the System File
Checker from an Elevated Command Prompt:
http://vistasupport.mvps.org/system_file_checker.htm

That *should* replace it with a 'full' copy since the file in question
is included with Vista.
