My wife's computer recently got hit by Cryptowall. Initially I was unaware of the nature of the virus and I simply backed up all of the files onto an external drive and reinstalled Windows completely. However, I now have all of her files in an encrypted format though the Cryptowall virus is gone from the machine. I was wondering if here is any known way to try and decrypt the files (without paying the ransom obviously). It has been about 20 days since the infection occurred, we just didn't need to open any of the documents until today.
Additionally, we have some of the older files stored on CDs in unencrypted format. I wasn't sure if there was a program to reverse engineer the keys. I have already tried Panda to no avail with the unencrypted and encrypted files.
Thanks for any advice.
