decktop.ini

icon for desktop.ini shows up once and awhile on my desktop, I delete it
since I don't like clutter. Why does it come back and is it needed on
desktop. Seems to work OK without it

You've got hidden files showing. Go to Folder Options>View and untick the
box next to "Show Hidden Files or Folders".

Hi Jr,

See OPTION TWO here, and make sure that you have "Hide protected
operating system files" checked.

I'm having this same issue, though I'm finding multiple copies of desktop.ini
throughout the drives, to include my usb drive and an sd digital card. I've
had as many as 50 different versions, which results in an EXTREMELY slow
computer. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Desktop.ini files do not in any way slow a system down. They are *very*
normal and hold information about settings for the folders they are located
in.

If your system is lagging, you need to look elsewhere for the cause.
Malware, overloaded startup groups, and crappy AV software like Norton's 360
program are often the root cause.
