Deactivated(?) desktop - how to re-activate

My windows xp desktop (background) has turned white along with some message about the action being a safeguard. I have tried &quotclicking&quot on an indicated box to &quotreactivate&quot the desktop. The resulting popup box offers a choice of &quotYes&quot or &quotNo&quot regarding
a script error. Clicking on either one appears to have no effect as the desktop is still white (inactive?).
