I downloaded an ISO file of Win 10 and think I copied the contents to a DVD. At any rate it did allow a clean install.

I then copied the same contents to a flash drive but have not yet used it.

I was told this cannot be done to create a bootable disc for either DVD or flash Drive.

A moderator told me I do not need Rufus and can do as I told you I did.

But another person said I cannot just copy the files. I know the DVD worked but have not used the flash drive as my system is fine.

Could you help clear this up?

What happened when you tried to do a clean install?

An ISO file needs to be burned to a DVD using the proper software. I haven't heard of Rufus till now.

I did install the OS with the DVD - it was so long a ago I have forgotten the details.

I did burn the ISO file with Windows which now has that capacity with Windows 10.

I am asking if anyone really knows if one can copy the contents of an ISO file to the DVD and also to a flash drive, to install the OS.
One person said you need Rufus for the flash drive and the other mod said you do not.

"When you download the ISO file, you must copy it onto a USB or DVD". This is what I did.
However, I will look at the windows tool. I know a lot of people like to use Rufus which I was told is not necessary with Windows 10. I don't know if the tool is necessary or convenient, or if one one can just copy, not the iso, but the contents of it to a drive.
Thank you for the referral to the tool which I will read up on.

I downloaded an ISO of Win 10 Pro and burned it to DVD using Windows burner(select DVD or USB as appropriate. I copied and pasted the files from the DVD to a flash drive.
I checked the files within both the DVD and the flash drive and boot was included. So, with no 3rd party tools like Rufus, I have a bootable spare.

I just tried to boot off the flash drive and it worked fine.
It was somewhat of an experiment but I did want a back up drive in case and without 3rd party.
I hope this helps someone else.
