Firstly, i want to say sorry if i posted in the wrong place and pls move
my topic if its posted in the wrong section, i couldn't figure out which
section my post goes to

this is what happened :
Last night i used and nothing happened, then this morning i turn on my
PC, then once i press power button, it immediately had this loud noise
like u put a paper and a fan and it keeps hitting like 10 hits a
second, i was shocked,
Note: Sound is not generated sounds, and speaker was OFF at all times
and because my CPU is put at the WALL, meaning when i open the casing,
i can only see very little, i have to take the whole CPU down from
table to see the inside and i cant do that cuz it just started, i shut
down my pc nicely!!!

so i open the casing very quickly and look thru the side
(i was quite sure some wire went in contact with the fan inside)

but i saw nothing, the sound was still there and my PC was still
booting, i looked at my main-fan, (tat one above Pentium4), it was OK,
so was my graphic card fan, nothing blocking, i press the eject button
on my both my CD-rom and the sound was still there, by now, startup was
loading desktop etc, without a problem, so i guess the Harddisk spinning
thing was alright (only one hdd)

now its left to the power supply, i could clearly hear the sound wasn't
from there, it was somewhere near the RAM (unsure) , but there are no
more spinning things in my CPU already, no other cards (only one old
56k card that doesnt have a fan and i dont use it anymore),
nothing was in floppy and floppy light wasn't on too, whats wrong?

my pc takes long time to startup, and when everything loaded, i was
about to quickly shut down and check but then the sound loudness
decreased and eventually my pc went back to normal (the sound i mean),
i mean, the sound disappeared

my desktop was loaded just like normal, there wasn't ANYthing wrong at
it at ALL, what could be that scary sound ?

Maybe a fan going bad in power supply, case fan, or CPU fan.

Try using a piece of rubber tubing & use as a stethescope/listening
device & move the free end from one suspect place to another 'til you
pinpoint the source. s

A CPU makes no noise. Only things that are mechanical can produce noise as
you described. Like the man said use a sound amplifying device to check
fans, power supply and drives and please dont get electricuted. If you know
someone that is good at mechanical things ask them to check for you if your
not sure. What does the weird noise sound like?

Open the cover and look. It wasn't caused by Windows XP.
