I am manually backing up my files every so often. I copy and paste folders
from the c: drive to my external HD. Each time I get a message asking am I
sure I want to replace the contents of the old folder with the new. I hit
yes to all. The problem is, it doesnt replace the folder, it combines the
new folder contents with the old.
I would like the entire folder to be replaced. Is there a place I can go
and change the settings in XP?

Hi Cap,
There are many ways to do it. Batch files, backup programs. Here is a
free program that can synch one folder on a drive to another. You have
to select each one and synch but it sounds like it's what you want.

Thanks Terry. I will look into this program as my backup files continue to
grow. But for now, I dont mind copying them myself.
I just want to tell windows to replace the folder and not combine them. Is
there a setting to do that ... a setting that can change the copy/paste
function?

Not the way you're doing it. Unless you remove the folder on the backup
drive and then paste.
The synch method in the program referred eliminates all the hassle. Just
click on the source folder on the left, the destination folder on the
right and click the synch button. Very easy.
