Bill H.
I have only some details at this point.
The gateway computer with WinXp now constantly reboots. After a restart or
cold reboot, the gateway screen comes up (didn't use to) and then the
Windows login screen, and then the computer reboots and the process starts
all over.
They can boot into safe mode. We tried several restore points, but upon
reboot, XP says it's unable to do the restore.
Seems this started shortly after trying to upgrade their backup program from
the "limited" version that came with the Seagate external backup disk drive
to the retail "pro" version. They launched the install program, but quit
before actually installing the product.
Also, there was some msg that they can't remember relating to the $MFT file.
I'm wondering if a chkdsk should/could be initiated at this time from safe
mode.
Thanks.
