Computer is doing something ..

I have noticed that my computer keeps doing something when it gets into monitor off state. I see that the hard drive gets active almost constantly and a floppy drive gets its light on. It goes in pretty noticeable pattern, like forever. If I force
it into Sleep, it will wake up and do the same.
Any idea?
