Computer hangs 1-2 minutes after logging on

Hi all,

I am running windows XP on an IBM TP T43 laptop. I am having problems
after
logging in. In particular, the machine boots normally, but 1-2 minutes
after I log on it hangs. I tried booting into safe mode but it hangs in
safe mode as well.

Please let me know if you have any information or have faced a similar
problem before. Also let me know if you need more information.

In my experience, a 'hang' is almost always a video driver error, and when
it's not, it's 'some' driver for some piece of hardware, anyway. I would
take a look at the event viewer (eventvwr.msc) and see if something is
posting an error when the hang happens. I would also, just for the heck of
it, remove the 'display adapter',

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the device, Action menu,
"Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.
