I have my windows 8 pro x64 laptop behaving very oddly: i can shut it down, but if i instead command it to restart, it freezes after BIOS.

The machine is dual booting with Debian, using GRUB 1.98. The two OSs are on different partitions of the same SSD (partition 0 is system reserved, partition 1 for windows, partition 2 for Linux).

Restarting from Linux returns no issues: this let me think there must be something wrong from windows.

If i ask Windows to restart, laptop freezes after POST (i suppose, HP screen mask operations) but before accessing to GRUB screen.

The issue doesn't happen shutting down from windows and then turning on the machine again. NOTE: since i have a SSD i disabled hybrid shutdown.

/sfc /scannow did not found any integrity violation.

Issue started after a windows update (can't recall which unfortunately).

Best regards :)
