Can anyone tell me if it is safe or recommended to compress the system
or boot partitions on a network server running Windows Server 2003, or
where info on this may be documented? Thanks for any help.

Hi Runner7,

I cant locate any info on this at the moment..but no it is not recommended
to do this. Your server performs a ton of read operations on the system
partition, if it is compressed the server will need to work that much harder
to access what it needs as it would need to uncompress and then recompress
each needed file on each read you would find that all of your server based
network services would slow down noticeably.

If you are running out of space on your system partition there are a few
things you can do to free some up as well as suggestions on how to replace
your system drive with a new larger one with minimal
downtime/reconfiguration.. weve mentioned many ways to do this in this
newsgroup recently, if you perform a search here you'll find that people
have already put forth some great suggestions.
