Compress and zip File

I downloaded an .exe program to cut and splice avi (video) files in a
subfolder named Junk. After executing the exe file, it produced a zip file.
I then clicked on it, and Xp fired up some compression facility to show the
contents. I then fired up pkunzip, and it went off into command land (DOS).
It seemed to put the files in Junk, but I cannot see them. I tried
re-executing pkunzip, and it saw them too. It wanted to know if it could
replace them. My question is why can't I see the unzipped files?

Well, I guess I worked this out. This seems very odd. I opened the zip
folder, apparently with some XP Compress facility. It shows the contents of
the zip folder. I selected all of them, and copied them to another folder.
However, the folder with the zip file seems empty, except for the zip file
itself. This even though, as said below, pkunzip seemed to pull them into
that folder.
