Compents missing in HKEY_ LOCAL_ MACHINE

I keep getting the error code 8000FFFF when trying to install updates. I went through the process to fix it and it told me to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then go to components.. well my components section is missing.... how do i get that back???
