codecs gone! and knowledge base unknowledgeable

my gsm 6.10 audio codec, which is supposed to come with xp, seems to have
disappeared after I unistalled the acemegacodec pack. When i tried the
suggestions of reinstalling hardware using the win32 directory (found on the
ventrillo website) windows can't find the file msgsm32 anywhere on my hd
that apparently it needs to install from. There are directions for
reinstalling drivers/ codecs for '95 and '98 but not for xp on the microsoft
website. Any ideas?

Well This is confusing! Windows asked for this file to reinstall the
codecs, rather implying that it is not a trojan but in real life part of XP
Pro install.
