CLM client reports - Invalid Smartcard Serial Number

I am having a trouble getting my install of CLM 2007 w/ FP1 working. From the
CLM client (running on Win XP SP3) I am trying to read a Gemalto .NET smart
card. The message I get is "Invalid smart card serial number. Smart card
information not available for the suppield smart card." The Gemalto utilities
have no problem reading the card on this host. I am not sure what to make of
this message - presumably the CLM client read the card, did some analysis and
had a problem with s/n? Really I would like to know if it is a message I can
ignore or not. This is a new deployment of CLM in a lab setting, new cards,
no certs have been issued yet.

Thanks,

-Wes

What exactly are you trying to do when you get this error?

To err is human to really foul things up requires a computer.

A the CLM Client I am selecting "View details of the smart card currently in
the reader". I did this basically as a post install test - is the CLM client
working correctly. I am expecting a response like - no certificate found.

Ok, this is what I kind of expected and what you're seeing is the expected
behaviour. Until you at least initiate an enrollment workflow you'll get
this response. CLM doesn't know anything at all about the smart card you've
inserted and that is exactly what it is telling you. Until a smart card
profile is at least the New state, CLM doesn't know anything about the
card.
