Clean install of XP Pro and SP2 - can't recognize many devices, what to do?

Installed XP Pro and SP2 on a new HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook. Want to use
Windows Update to "get up to speed", however -- the only network adapter
recognized is the 1394. The Ethernet and Network Controller's are listed
with Q marks as unknowns. Looks like any device in a PCI slot is that is
that way. What can I do? (If it helps, I diasbled SATA in BIOS so I could do
this install.)

If you did a clean install, it sounds like you didn't also immediately
install the motherboard/chipset and then device drivers. The motherboard
drivers have to go in first.
