I installed a new CD writer in an XP system and whilst it will read and play
a CD, I cannot get XP to recognise it to write to.
Can anyone advise what the jumper settings should be. (It is a SONY CD
writer).
Thanks in advance

As it is being recognized what makes you think a jumper must be set
somewhere? Also, is it a SATA or EIDE device?

You must enable the CD in the drive properties. Also you
may want to install third-party software.

I need to enable the CD in the drive properties?

Even though it reads an inserted CD? And how do I enable it?

XP should have enabled the drive, as shown in: rt-click my
computer>l-click prop>l-click hardware>l-click device manager>double-click
cd-drive and read its properties as "device enabled" or "disabled". The
software you are using: did it come with the cd-burner? If not, get a good
3rd-party software, as already advised. Nero is my choice; but I'm sure you
can find a good free one. Luck, s
