I burned files to a CDR using the DVDRW drive in my desktop machine. if I
insert the CD in my laptop (which is just an ordinary CDROM drive) I can
view the files. If I insert the CD in the secondary CDROM drive on the
desktop I can view the files. if my wife inserts the CD in the DVDRW drive
on her laptop it just shows a blank screen. Other CDs work perfectly OK.
Can anyone suggest a reason why the CD is not readable on this one DVDRW
drive?

Maybe because her drive is marginal?

....in addition to a possibly failing / "not up to standard spec." drive as
earlier suggested on this thread,
you didn't mention what software you used to do the "burn,"
....there is a small chance that you have the same "burning" software on the
first 2 PC's, and an even further, perhaps remote chance, that the same
"packet-writing" software was used/is available on them but, not on the
Laptop ?

We had photos on a CD that was created on Windows and suddenly Windows
wouldn't read the CD at all on any machine. I have Kubuntu 7.04 as a dual
boot - that COULD read the CD so I copied to the HDD and burned a fresh CD
with K3B - no other machine in the house has K3B on it.....
