can't start cryptographic service

hi, i am using xp home sp2. when i try to start crypt service i get "error
123" and i think because of this i can't update my windows. what should i do
to fix it please help. thanks...

There's nothing here pertinent to the 123 error in particular, but it
might be worth your reading anyway, to see if your problem is similar
to one of these:
