A few weeks back, an update for my W2K O/S might have had a gremlin or two
in it. Anyway, since then whenever I use IE, I never get asked if I want to
make it the default. (My normal browser is Opera.) However, it suits me to
switch for a while. How can I make IE the default?

Thx

Different ways of doing this.

Control Panal | Add/Remove Porgrams | Set Program Access and Defaults

or

Control Panel | Internet Options | Programs Tab | Check box at the bottom.

or the same Internet Options menu can be accessed from within the Tools
menu in IE.
