Cant play videos from camera in Surface RT

[Surface RT new user]

I am new to Surface RT and Windows 8.1. I am having trouble viewing my videos taken with my camera and then downloaded onto my surface. When I double click on the video from File Explorer Xbox opens and gives me the message 'Can't play. This file format my be unsupported, the file extension may be incorrect, or the file may be corrupted. 0xc00d36c4. However, when I download the same video onto my windows 7 laptop it plays with no problem on windows media player. How can I fix this problem?
