When I enter my login info at initial Windows login in screen, it's not
recognizing the user/password as correct? I don't have the Windows XP CD as
it was loaded when I received it.

Can I connect it to my PC and overwrite with my PCs Windows XP? If so, how?

Thanks!

If you have forgotten your password or otherwise can't log in, if you have
another user account with administrative privileges you can log into that
account and change your original user account's password from the User
Accounts applet in Control Panel. If you don't have another account like
this set up or don't have the password to it, you'll need to log into the
built-in Administrator account. In XP Home, boot the computer into Safe
Mode. Do this by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the computer is starting
up. This will get you to the right menu. Navigate using your Up arrow key
the mouse will not work here. Once in Safe Mode, you will see the normally
hidden Administrator account. The default password is a blank.

In XP Pro, you do not need to go into Safe Mode. At the Welcome Screen, do
Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in
"Administrator" and whatever password you assigned when you set up Windows.

If you reset the built-in Administrator account's password in Home or have
Pro and don't remember the password, use NTpasswd to change the built-in
Administrator account's password to a blank.

Then go to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel and set passwords that
you will remember and make other desired changes. WRITE THE PASSWORDS DOWN
AND PUT THEM SOMEWHERE YOU WON'T LOSE THEM.

Thanks, Malke! I'll try this in the morning.

I'm sure it's not a password issue. Because I am forgetful, I keep a file
with all log-ins, support phone numbers, wireless codes, etc. I used to ask
when things like this happen, why-but I've given up trying to figure some of
this out....unless you might have a clue?

Thanks, again!

Since you've told me nothing about your computer, what changed between the
time things worked and the time they didn't, and what exactly happens
besides the nebulous "can't get in", no I don't have a clue. Answer some of
those questions and I might be able to give you a more focused solution.

In the meantime, use the technique(s) I already gave you and see if you can
get into the built-in Administrator account. See if you can get into your
regular account in Safe Mode. And/or try Last Known Good Configuration from
Safe Mode.

It is possible that your user account has been corrupted, but it is also
possible that you have hardware failure. There is simply no way for me to
know what's going on with your computer at this point.

Check your CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCKS settings. Windows passwords are case
sensative so they must be entered in the proper case. Also, if it is a
laptop computer, the NUM LOCK setting uses the uiopjklm./ keys. Makes sure
the numlock is off if you are using a laptop computer.
