Can't dowhnload Security Updates for Word and Publisher

I am still unable to download Security Updates for MS Word 2002 (error
KB950243) and MS Publisher 2002 (error KB950129) Last time (other security
updates for same programs) TaurArian answered with a link for each download
so I could do them separately. Going to the webpage for each error flips me
back to my update page and doesn't work. Thanks

Claudia, please provide the error code you are receiving and not the
knowledgebase article.

Thank you.

Dear TaurArian,
Error code is 57E again which leads to 25 code possibilities! My original
thread takes me to the April updates, of course. Don't know what further
information you need.

Try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838687 (ignore APPLIES TO and the fact
that it doesn't mention the 57E error).

It's worked for others with your problem.

Dear PA Bear,
So which of the lengthy 4 methods do I use? I am sole user on my 2006 Dell
(came with XP which I updated to Vista 6 mo later). Thanks

Do them in order, please. If Method 1 doesn't help, move on to Method 2,
etc.

Re: Can't download Security Updates for Word and Publisher

I backed up the registry, then went to Windows XP (though I have Vista), went
to the Registry Editor but could not find "the subkey that is listed by the
error message" (?57E). Say, will I have to do this every time MS puts out a
security update for Word and Publisher? Thanks,

Re: Can't download Security Updates for Word and Publisher

What do you mean you "went to Windows XP?" Did you upgrade from WinXP to
Vista or are you dual-booting?

Method 1 doesn't mention Vista (sorry), so skip to Methods 2, 3, and/or 4.

"Clean boot troubleshooting" in Vista is similar to WinXP.

That fact that you upgraded to Vista or are dual-booting may be related to
the problem, especially if this behavior only started after you installed
Vista.

Security Update for Microsoft Publisher 2002 (KB950129)

Please note for Vista, you cannot get to the WU Site for updates and it's
all controlled from the computer.

Have you tried running a repair install of Office or reinstalling Office
since you upgraded WinXP to Vista? It may be a case that the Office
installation needs redoing. It may be that you have a setting somewhere that
only the small office file downloads instead of the full file which might
have been carried over from WinXP days.

Have you tried leaving the Office installation disk in the drive prior to
updating Office?

Otherwise each month, you'll have to search for the downloads manually and
install them as that appears to work for you.

Please also see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932087
Because Office 2000 and Office XP are in Extended Support, there have been
no fixes for issues that occur when these products are run on Windows Vista.

Re: Can't download Security Updates for Word and Publisher

Dear PA Bear
In Method 1, there was no category for Vista, so I chose the XP category and
got stuck as mentioned.
I upgraded from XP to Vista in 4/2007, do not know what "double booting"
means or what "clean boot trouble shooting" means either. (I think I only
have Vista that is what comes up when I start my computer.)
In Method 2, don't seem to have WebRoot spysweeper at the far right of the
taskbar. In Method 3, what is "Clean Boot State"?
Is is possible to provide me with a direct link to each of these updates
(like TaurArian did in April) to download directly?
Again, will I have to go through this problem every time MS has Security
Updates? Thanks

Dear TaurArian,
Does this mean that I can't download the updates? Can you give me a direct
link to each of the downloads like you did in April? Thanks,

Dear TaurArian,
Are you suggesting I uninstall Word and then reinstall it? Or maybe I can
"repain install" first. And I will next time leave in the Office
installation disk. Thank you again.

Re: Can't download Security Updates for Word and Publisher

The 52E error points to an issue with Permissions.

I note that you did not answer TauArian's questions:

Have you tried the above yet? (Rhetorical question, really: You needn't
reply to me about the above, just to TauArian.)

Try leaving the Office CD in the installation drive. If that doesn't work you
may try a repair install. No guarantees.

As you're using Vista and you are being notified of what updates are
required, you may wish to continue manually downloading the same -

http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/downloads/CD010224911033.aspx

And correct, you cannot use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Website
in Vista but you can download manually the updates that are required for your
version of Office from the above link.

Dear TaurArian,
Your link to the downloads worked this time as it did before. I did not try
leaving the Office CD in the installation drive or try a repair install. (I
feel I am already in over my head and am hesitant to try something else when
all is now well! Maybe next time when the Security updates come around--and
they most probably will!)

When I tried to open the link to downloads you just sent, nothing happens.

Thanks again.
