Hello--
I have never had any real problems with my windows 2000 machine (I
actually prefer it to my work machine, which runs XP), until I tried
to burn a video CD with Nero the other day. The machine completely
locked up, was totally unresponsive to CTRL ALT DEL, and it wouldn't
even respond to the power button. I disconnected the power supply,
and now when I try to reboot it gets a few seconds into the Windows
2000 Professional screen, then it flips to a blue screen with the
following:

*** STOP: 0x0000006B (0xC0000033,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x00000000)
PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

....followed by instructions to reboot the machine in Safe Mode, but it
can't even do that. I have not installed any new hardware in months
and months (the last hardware installed was a CD burner that has
burned hundreds of audio CDs--with the same Nero software that I used
to burn a video CD when the machine locked up--over the past 2 years
or so since I installed it I did install a KVM switch to go between
this win2000 machine and my work machine, but that has been in regular
constant use for 6-8 months with no problems), but this error seems to
have been related to the video CD creation function in the Nero
program.

Any ideas how I can at least salvage the data on that machine? I do
have a back-up, but it is a little old, and there's some data on the
machine that has since been added that I would really like to
retrieve...any help would be greatly appreciated!!

To retrieve your data...I'd slave the drive to another machine...
that would probably be the safest thing.

Before any attempt is made to repair the OS

I'd first run a RAM test
and also the HD mfg's diagnostic

If the H/W checks OK...from the recovery console you can try chkdsk /r

if that does not help...then try a repair install
