Hello,

I have a laptop that the hard drive died in yesterday. I have an old hard
drive (two years old) from the laptop that has the OS loaded and all my
programs. I had replaced it with a larger drive and put it away for a
backup.

Anyway, since I've put it back in I can't access the WORKGROUP on the
network. There are two other PC's an my home network, one runs Windows 2000,
the other runs Windows XP Pro, as well the laptop runs Windows XP Pro.

All networking worked fine before the hard drive crashed. The drive I out
back in used to access these two PC's as well.

I looked on Microsoft's site at article 318030 which told me to make sure
these two items were set this way:

Step 1: Turn on NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Step 2: Start the Computer Browser service

They are set correctly. The two other PC's can see each other just fine,
they see the laptop but can't access it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian

Hey, Satan wannabe, learn to cross-post!

A point not made is that N multiposted copies will consume N times the
space for separate copies of the same post. Crossposted messages have
just *one* copy on the server and the groups simply have pointers back
to that same single copy. Multiposting wastes disk space on the server.
Yes, your post is small but remember that you consume N times the space
on one server and then do so on all the newsgroups servers worldwide.

Crossposting helps readers in one group see the replies from those in
another RELATED newsgroup to which you copied your post. That way, they
don't waste their time duplicating similar replies that already exist.

And how much space does an unnecessary post that didn't address the issue
waste?
