Hi!

I have a network with two servers:

1) Windows 2000 Server with AD and RAS server, were computers from other
locations establish VPN connection

2) Windows 2003 Server with an applications that clients use, and Terminal
Service Licence Manager

On Windows 2003 Server I install TS Service, activated and now have 10
permanent licences (I can see this), I need users from the stores to access
to this computer using remote desktop, but they only get temporary licences.

Now I have a messenge everytime I connect from a diferent place telling me
that this will stop to work in 3 days...

How can I use the ten licences that I have installed on that server? Why
this connections doesn´t get one of the permanent one´s?

Thanks

Bruno Marçal

You bought 10 terminal services licenses correct? This is show in
terminal services licensing snap-in? many time people confuse windows
cal licensing with TS licensing which is completely separate.

Check HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing key and confirm that users
have full control on that key and everything below it.

Hello Jeff,

I have the papers here, and we have 15 windows cals and 10 TS licences...
the last one I install myself, the server is activated and the licences
installed.

I check that key on registery, it was ok...

The problem persists... I have a total of 10 licences and 10 availble... it
continue to use only temporary licences...

In 3 days, this will stop to work? What can I do?

Thanks!

Re: Re: Can´t use permanent licences from TS Server Licence

Maybe you have bought and installed Per User licenses, and your
terminal Server is still in the default licnesing mode of Per
Device licensing?
Check in Terminal Services Configuration - Server settings -
Licensing.
Change the mode to Per User licensing (if that's the TS CALs you
have installed), and all should be well.

Check this article as well, it explains that even after you have
switched licensing mode on the TS, your User CALs count will not
be decremented:
