Ben B.

I'm running low on disk space on my C: drive which I typically reserve for
the OS only. This server is our terminal server, and twice we've been below
200MB available.

Do you know what the directory 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3'
is and why it's so big?

My other servers have the same directory, but it's less than 300MB.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response!
I'm not sure if they're saved spool jobs?? Inside of the directory I'm
seeing a lot of .tmp files, and .cfg files. However I'm also seeing .hlp .dll
and .exe files??

I've checked a handfull of my users, and they are not set to retain print
jobs. When I look into the printers and faxes on my print server I'm on
seeing a couple of jobs waiting to print, but no retained jobs.

sorry printjobs are at C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS

'C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3' is printer drivers.

Should the directory be that large? We have roughly 20-30 printers, but only
4 or 5 different models. We mainly use HP, and a Zebra label printer.

it´s a fairly amount of data yes.

Have you tried to remove all printer drivers?
You do that in printerserver properties. Right click in Printers and Faxes
and choose "Server properties"

As long as the directory is real and needed, I can find more space else where.
Thanks Robert! You've been very helpful.

Re: C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 is using 1.27GB of

Hi Ben,

You may also want to look for skinnier drivers. For some HP printers you
can grab just the PCL or PS drivers and install those rather than the entire
driver pack. You can also usually go in there and pull the foreign language
folders to save space.

Finally, if you are not backing the printer configurations up, you might
want to look at the printmig utility to backup the entire printer set and
drivers to disk for archival.
