i am attempting to revive an old emachines that had a defective hard drive. i
installed new, formatted HD and ran windows xp disk. comp reads disk and upon
"starting windows" i get a stop screen. the tech info is as follows.
***stop: 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF7c8D577, 0xF7D3AB00, 0xF7D3A7FC)

*** serenum.sys - Address F7C8D577 base at F7C8B000, DateStamp 41107b2a

any clue as to what is wrong?? thanks in advance.

after some searching around the net, i decided to remove the old memory and
replace with a new one. now i get the following
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

***STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFFFFFFF8, 0x00000001, 0x80838AFB, 0x000000000)

i restarted a few times and get the page_fault error repeatedly now.
suggestions...
