BSOD on boot

I recently started working on a friend's computer to try to fix his

sound. After several attempts of various fixes, including cleaning the

registry, I tried to uninstall the sound driver, restart, and then was

going to install it again. Ever since I uninstalled it, I get bsods

(page fault in non paged area, stop code 0x50) on boot.

I get them when trying to boot from hard disk, or when trying to boot

the vista repair disk (i also had a windows 7 repair disk that wouldn't

boot without bsod). Then, i tried running a windows 7 installation disk,

and that also blue screened (after all the files were loaded).

I can access the hard drive just fine when using an ubuntu live disk,

and removed a faulty ram stick, so my current ram passes the memory

tests, but it still blue screens on me.

laptop model: vgn fz430e

os: vista home x86

error: STOP: 0x00000050 (0x80100690, 0x00000000, 0x8BA54AB4, 0x00000000)

I have tried the stuff in

http://social.technet.microsoft.com...s/thread/8b95be75-dc9f-4de3-b8db-3e1811899ce6

because when choosing the safe mode option, it would blue screen right

after crcdisk.sys was loaded. Still no luck.

I'm going to attempt to put the hard drive in another laptop, but while

im gone, does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

quick edit: after cleaning the registry, it booted up just fine,

uninstalling the sound driver seemed to be what messed everything up.

edit: same problem on my laptop when i switched the hard drives, and his

works fine. sorry for wasting a thread =\
