Hi.

I'm helping my friend out who has a problem with his computer running Windows 8. It started with his computer freezing up and he had to reboot it.
After rebooting, he was met only by a black screen for about 30 minutes followed by a flashin BSOD (the smiley one). No error code.

I made a bootable USB drive with Windows 8 on it, downloaded from Microsoft's website. After booting from it, I'm presented by the Windows 8 logo, a spinning circle, but then it goes black, and after 5-30 minutes I'm get the same BSOD.

I've tried disabling everything that I can in BIOS. The BIOS detects all hardware in the computer.

The computer is a laptop. ASUS X401a.

I hope someone out there has an answer for me!

Thank you.
/Carl.
