Hi there

I am having problems windows booting. Even through safe mode it will jam
before actually getting through to windows.

I have been told to boot through windows disk and press repair. Im
struggling what to do from there.

What command do i put in? Is it Bootfix?

Any Help

Thanks

David

You need to provide more information. When exactly does the boot process
stop? Get any error messages? If yes, quote them exactly. What are the
computer specs and the recent history of the machine? What changed
between the time things worked and the time they didn't?

There is no point in flailing around such as messing with your boot
files. Troubleshoot methodically so you can apply the correct fix.

I am having the same problem with an ACER, nearly identically, which is that
booting Windows XP hangs for a very long time with the ACER splash screen and
does not if I cut power and immediately reboot, or will just fail to boot
entirely the first time but not the second.

I also occasionally get a hardware related failure to start to boot lately,
which requires that I cut the power long enough to reset after which time the
computer boots as per above.

There are no error messages coming up at all, so to date I have no
information about what is causing this.

Hi Malke

Thank you for your prompt response.

No error messages. The system decides to restart when i press "start windows
normally" or "Safe Mode".

The machines motherboard did brake and i have replaced this. Everything is
working on that basis (tried a different HDD) except entering windows.

System is 2.2Ghz, 60Gig HDD, 256MB DDR RAM.

Do you require any other information?

After you replaced the motherboard, did you do a Repair Install of
Windows? At the very least, you need to do this. Sometimes the hardware
is so different that you need to do a clean install.

You can't do a repair installation from the recovery console. Optional
Repair installation is in the next screen with the normal XP installation.
