Hi everyone!

I'm a "newby" on this forum. I'm pleased that this is an opportunity to get aquainted and possibly some help.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 w/ XP home (oem). I also have an external HD (80Gig). I recently started having trouble booting up. It would go to the first Dell introductory and stall there. I tried pressing F2 or F12 to no avail.
I then tried disconnecting the External HD....to no avail. I saw on one forum the suggestion to boot on the System disc and choose diagnostics. I have only a CD titled "Drivers & Utilities". I insert it and booted. The F12 key responded with choices including "CD" "Internal HD", etc. I chose the CD and it then booted fine.....one time.

The next time I selected, with the CD inserted, "Internal HD" and it booted fine. I though I was home free but it only booted a time or two and went back to the same situation. I'm doing something wrong but have no idea what. Can anyone offer a solution here?

My wife was having the same problem with her Dell. It turned out the boot oreder in bios was wrong. Check the boot order in bios and make sure it is set to cdrom > hd > floppy.
Also make sure you don't have a floppy in the drive.
