Hey,

I just bought a Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 to use with my Asus N70S
Laptop which is on Vista 64-bit SP2, with integrated bluetooth. For
some reason none of my bluetooth devices (my cell phone, and the mouse)
will be discovered. I've set the bluetooth settings to "Discoverable"
etc., and the correct services are enabled. Nothing comes up on the
"Add a wireless device" page. I don't know what I have to do to get my
devices to be discovered.

I just saw that on my Device Manager, Bluetooth Remote Control,
Bluetooth Hands-free Audio, Bluetooth Hands-free Audio., and Bluetooth
Stereo Audio all have the yellow exclamation point on their icons.

Anybody know what I can do to fix my problem?

I'm not expert, but, thinking of a BlueTooth keyboard & mouse as well, it's interesting to see your issue. Here are my thoughts
maybe something here will help.

A before bootup guess would be that the manufacturer of the notebook may have a box specific setting which must be enabled, perhaps
in the bios, for USB connected radio & the connected devices, or PNP. My ASUS motherboard has settings such as that for USB devices,
& I see a detection routine run each time I start the computer. Although I've never used it, the interrupt 19 setting may also be
needed with some devices, since a BT device transmits data to the device to which it's connecting, & keyboard & mouse are devices
used from a very early point in startup. However, it may be the notebook is designed to use its own keyboard, only, at that stage in
startup.

Another guess would be that discovery (after bootup) must be enabled not only in the host OS, but at some point in the phone,
keyboard, mouse (whatever) as well (see manual). So, the computer BlueTooth radio properties must have the box set to allow other
devices to discover, & the devices themselves must be set to seek. Also, although the device, seeking the signal, may, finding it,
be unable to negotiate with the peer if the peer is not setup properly, or, if some other device or software is monopolizing the
resources. Maybe that means turning off other devices that would transmit radio or create interference on the BT frequencies.

But another question exists: I noticed cutting in/out on the BlueTooth devices, & little or no UI. They appear to perform a task
then auto reset. So, whenever needed for something, some action must be taken on both devices to cause the needed something to
happen. The setting to "trust" a device seems unwise, since some, perhaps externally or independently controlled devices could (be
used to) sync flood a target (creating a sort of D.O.S. condition).

The (wired) keyboard I'm using has a way to lock with a couple of key presses, & a cell phone has airplane mode. So, just like that,
a BT keyboard &/or mouse may have a similar contrivance to connect/disconnect/lock/unlock or, there may be some software (in the
driver?) to mediate the communications. Since BT devices are supposed to be uniquely identifiable, once the device connects, it's
conceivable the OS, if configured to do so, would seek the correct driver from an internet driver store like Windows Update, then,
after installation completes, the devices should function as intended. Installation may mean a UAC approval or more, or setup
running as an Admin or a local service account with sufficient privilege, then setup the target user account(s) as approved for the
device(s) in question, depending on the schema/policy within which the notebook is configured.

Do you have to switch it on in the BIOS ?

There are known Bluetooth issues with SP2. Do some Googling on that
basis and you might find something. Also, there is the Asus news
group... they might have some specific help.
