Hi, Whenever I try to shutdown my computer it gives me the blue screen
of death and gives me a message that says IRQL_Less_or_Equal or
something like that. Also whenever I start up my computer I get a
little popup window from Norton Security online that says "Auto-protect
has experienced an unexpected error. 0x000003EE" Has anybody else had
this problem and if so how do you fix it?

Thanks,
Javik

Could you explain further about your Norton Ordeal please, as we don't know
if your Norton subscription current or your Norton security been compromised
or what?.
Make sure you scan for both malware and virses from an online scanners
including Norton Online scanner to get better idea on how clean your machine
is!.

Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

Scan for malware from here:
SuperAntispyware - Free

RootkitRevealer v1.71
By Bryce Cogswell and Mark Russinovich
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Security/RootkitRevealer.mspx

Run a scan from here on-line:
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx
Download Avast Cleaner (offline scanner) from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-virus-cleaner.html
Lots of tools to download and disinfect your machine (offline scanner):
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/site/Downloads/browseFreeRemovalTool/

After the scan run disk cleanup on your drive.

Open a Notepad, customize or minimize to the taskbar as you will need it
later for this step to copy the error message on it.
Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr.msc click [OK] you will get the Event viewer control Panel.
click on each of these:
Application
System
Security
Look in the right Pane/window for error message with red (X) or Yellow
exclamation mark /!\ , double click each one to get more info about the
causer.
On the Event error properties message you will see:
Up Arrow
Down arrow
Two pages
Click on the two pages to copy the error message then bring up the Notepad
you opened earlier and right click on the first line and select Paste from
the list, this will paste the error message on a Notepad.
Please don't duplicate the error message one of each kind will be sufficient.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Please we need just the error messages with Red (X) and don't repeat the
error, just one of each kind and post them back in your next post.
I will assume the system is clean and running an up2date Anti-Virus
application, so try to capture the Process that causing this crash, either by
downloading the Process explorer from Ms site or by Task manager.
HTH.

The "IRQL_Less_or_Equal" error usually is connected with drivers. Since
Norton installs its own drivers and the problem occurred directly after
installing this program, uninstall Norton and see if that solves the
issue. If it does, your choice is to either contact Symantec tech
support to figure out what is happening and how to work around it or to
leave Norton uninstalled and replace with a better, less invasive
antivirus. Recommended programs are NOD32, Kaspersky, and Avast (free).
The built-in Windows Firewall is adequate for most people.

You need to take greater care when posting. "That says
IRQL_Less_or_Equal or something like that." What kind of quality
information is this?

I think you mean "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and if I have guessed
correctly the Backgrond Information on the Stop Error message is in the
link, which follows:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms793589.aspx

Possibilities:

You may receive a "Stop 0x0000000A" error message when you shut down or
restart a computer that is running Windows Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902069

Windows XP restarts when you try to shut down your computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311806

It would be helpful to see an actual copy of the Stop Error Report.
Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on the
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart. You can then induce the error and post.

Try reconfiguring auto protect and turn it on?

If you uninstall Norton, you'll need to use THEIR uninstaller to get all of it.
Available here:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then reinstall it, if you already paid for it.
