Your post doesn't show up in Google, and that could be why you
didn't get any answers. Your post is also not shown on my
USENET server.

In your situation, I would buy a separate PCI USB card. The BIOS
will not try to enumerate USB devices connected to the card,
which should prevent the problem from happening. If you want
to use your hub, you can connect the hub to the PCI USB card.

Note that, with 440BX boards, there can be problems with modern
PCI add-in cards. So buying a PCI USB card does not guarantee
success. In other words, adding the PCI USB card *oould* introduce
another problem. In past cases, where PCI cards didn't work right with
440BX motherboards, nobody has been able to explain why. In some
cases, you could hypothesize that the card type is unknown to the
BIOS, but that doesn't explain all the failures to work properly.
In any case, a PCI USB card is reasonably cheap to purchase and
try as an experiment.
