HI,

I have XP Pro SP3 and a gigabyte Radeon HD4850 Display card on an Asus

P5Q3 mobo. It has 4GB RAM and 650 Watts power. No over clocking, just

straight.

For some reason the screen goes black every now and then and then reboots.

In event viewer there no problem show except this is ACEEventLog.

Any ideas what may be causing it. It is so random and just happens

anytime.

Any help please?

Hi,

I have just uninstalled everything ATI from Device Mgr and Add/Remove

Programs but not sure what to replace them with. I have the orig CD

that came with the 4850 however that has been updated.

What version of ATI Catalyst do I need to download and install?

Thanks

rock

First you use the CD that the Video Card came from

(Go to Device Management First write down what Video card it says there, and

then "Uninstall" the Video Card

It will go to "VGA" mode and then when you reboot

it should ask for a cd

If you don't have a CD or the install doesn't install the Video Driver

Go to ATI and download the correct Driver for your card

(You may have to do some home work to find out what you have.)

Thanks

Yes I did this and used Driver Sweep then installed the latest ATI 10-1

drivers and catalyst.

It stayed up without a black screen and reboot for a couple of days but

I have noticed it has now rebooted again a couple of time over the last

few hours.

I used Memtest 86 and each stick passes by itself but when I put them

both in (any slot,) it does not finish the test but reboots after a few

seconds.

Any ideas where to go now?

Thanks

It sounds like the 2nd slot may be bad.

(IE cold Solder Joint)

Do you have another stick to try?

No I don't and as they both work separately and I am told that XP

doesn't recognise any more than 3GB or so, I am not sure what I would

gain by getting another one.

This is the only mobo I have that takes this new type of Ram as well.

Is there another reason for me to buy another?

I am not sure whether I mentioned it but I have an Asus P5Q3 mobo with

the 2GB a stick RAM and 650W power.

This mobo also has the 3rd Sata plug on the mobo is somehow blocked and

I can't use it as the plug will not click in enough, so maybe it is time

that I did a return?

Thanks for the time

Well I was thinking of Troubleshooting

Since they both work in slot one, and it's only when you put in the 2nd slot

it fails

(Meaning I think Slot 2 may be bad.)

I was thinking if you had one more you could absolutely be sure it's the

slot.

Any chance this board is on Warranty?

Thank you Russ. Yes I knew what you meant about troubleshooting it but

I had tried them in all the slots with the same result. There seems to

be a conflict of some type when they both go in.

Anyway, I will call the store tomorrow and see what I have to do to

return and swap it. I am in Sydney Oz.

Such a drag but in the last 3 weeks I have had this..

1. a driver issue with my ATI HD4850 drivers which I have fixed now with

new 10-1 drivers..

2. 2 new hard drives losing contact with XP. I have since fixed one

with 500GB a TestDisk 'write' however I am unable to get all of the data

off the other 500GB with Ontrack before I 'write'. I see it all with

Tesdisk so know its there.

Maybe they are all related to the crashes caused by the mobo/memory problem.

Not my month I'm afraid.. Still, we all have them don't we?

Many thanks Russ, once again it is appreciated.

oz :-)

Are the Memory the same Speeds?

Different Speed memory could be the issue?

Brands shouldn't make a difference but with some MB you never know.
