I was interested in trying out linux but I've had nothing but trouble trying to get linux to boot on the gigabyte 2AC8 board. (Forum won't let me post link to mobo specs)
Looking into this, I suspect it has something to do with "hybrid-EFI" as opposed to UEFI which should be supported on the distros I've attempted to install (ubuntu 13.10 and 12.04 as well as MATE).
I had Ubuntu set up to dual boot with windows 8.1 and windows 8.1 loaded find but every time I tried to load Ubuntu it'd drop me to the initramfs prompt.
I tried various secure boot and legacy boot settings with no success. I downloaded the boot-repair utility through the ubuntu terminal and it fixed errors letting me actually install the OS but everytime I choose boot ubuntu from the boot menu it drops to the initramfs prompt.
At this point I'm thinking the problem isn't with anything I'm doing but with my motherboard itself.
This is sort of a long winded post but I'm basically wondering if there is a UEFI motherboard that is confirmed to work with Linux. I'd prefer to be able to use a some what modern graphics card because I wanted to try out some games, nothing next gen but maybe a graphics card a year or two old would be nice to be able to use.
I want to build a system but my troubles with this gigabyte motherboard make me wonder if the parts I'm going to buy will even work on linux. So I'd like to verify first if there is a linux motherboard / graphics card compatibility list somewhere?
I know there are vendors that build linux gaming PC's but I don't feel like spending the extra money to have somebody put it together for me. Heck, i might even be able to swap this motherboard out for one that works and not build a new system I suppose, but I'd like to know I was buying something that worked.
