BCCode Restarting Computer Semi-Occasionally

Hey Guys,



My computer has been randomly restarting for the past few days. This

started occurring after i installed a torenting devise and started

queuing up a few torrents (from a private site). It looks like the

computer restarts after a while while running the torrenter (uTorrent).

I've ran virus scans from all the top sources and my computer is clean

as a whistle. Oh, also, when it soft restarts after this occurs it gets

stopped before launching windows saying that i need to insert the boot

disk. However, if i turn off the power for a few minutes, and then

restart the computer works perfectly. Here is the info that windows

offered:



BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : 00000028 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 :

00000001

BCP4 : B00B1FE3 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1





Additionally, it told me about these files, but i couldn't find them on

my computer:

C:\DOCUME~1\Colt\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1f90.dir00\Mini061510-01.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\Colt\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1f90.dir00\sysdata.xml
 
It looks to me that either your PSU or HDD are on the brink of failing

completely. I have had both instances happen to me. Most likely fault will

be the HDD failing. After running for a while the hard drive is failing,

possibly overheating, then after being off for a while will work again, when

it has cooled down. Get a new drive and clone your drive. Even if the drive

is not failing this action is worth while as a backup of your system is

always a good thing, especially in instances like this.



You will, most likely, have the 'automatic restart' option set in your

system settings. This will be preventing the BSOD and the relevant error

code from being seen. You can disable this to get more information on the

reason for the reset.



Go into 'start>control panel>system.'

Click on the advanced tab and then click on 'startup and recovery.'

Check box for 'write an event to the system log' and 'send an administrative

alert.'

Uncheck 'Automatically restart.'

Click on okay.



The next time the error occurs you should get a BSOD with an error code and

vague description of the error. Search this error on Bing or Google to get a

more detailed explanation of the error.



You should also have an error in your event log which can be accessed via

the 'Event viewer' but this is not always guaranteed, especially if the HDD

is failing. The BSOD is probably the best source for the error information

you need.

0xD1 errors are most often caused by bad drivers, perhaps this

"torenting devise" installed a filter driver that is causing problems.

Being that the problem started after installing this device the first

obvious step would be to completely uninstall the device and see if

things improve.



The problem can also be caused by bad RAM or a corrupt pagefile. You

can delete the pagefile by following the instructions here:

The 0xD1 error might point towards a dodgy driver but it does not explain the

fact the OP is asked for the Boot device on restart. This normally indicates

a dodgy HDD. I tried troubleshooting a similar problem before replacing my

HDD but the drive died before I could back it up. If I had backed it up in

the first instance I would have saved myself a lot of trouble. For the cost

of HDD's now it is a small expense in light of the potential problems that

can happen.
