We are a small size company with about 40 users .. 2003
architecture..
about 5 servers, with two of them DC's..
Exchange02 server: 6gb memory.. Xeon Dual Core woodcrest 2.0ghz,
dual
CPU, mirror OS, mirror log stripe, raid5 data array, 2003 x64 server
(on average, 7gb of 6gb in use, days after a reboot, though initially
only about 3200mb in use on bootup), DUAL gigabit nics
ServerB: Xeon 2.4 GHZ CPU (non x64 capable), 2gb memory, mirror OS,
raid5 data stripe, Sourcesafe, sql server 2000 (3 instances) , sql
server 2005 (1 instance), WSUS 3.0, sharepoint server 2007.. 2003
x86
server (memory used at fresh bootup about 1500mb, days later..
2100mb) single gigabit nic This server will probably get upgraded
to a new one in the next 6 months, with more space / memory etc.
Backup01: xeon woodcrest 2.0ghz, dual core, dual cpu, 4gb memory,
2003 x64 server R2 System Center DPM 2007 or Symantec Backupexec
(still deciding).. Primarily for backups to hardisk over the network
to this machine, then from this harddisk to the tape drive array
dlts4.. dual gigabit nic 1.7TB array for backing up 730 GB of data
from other servers. Mirrored OS, raid5 1.7TB array.
ServerDC: xeon DP (x64 capable), 3.0ghz, 2gb memory (1700mb used on
average) 2003 x86 server SQL 2000 (2 instances), Dynamics 9.0,
file server, SMS 2003 (probably will upgrade to system center manager
2007), FP, DHCP, DC, TrendMicro antivirus server, UPS shipping
software, DNS single gigabit nic Mirrored OS, RAID5 array, cant
expand any further, space limitted here. (apps to install are all
here too, we dont create sms packages, we just point to the apps in
the apps folder)
**BackupDC: P3 800mhz, 1gb memory, DHCP, DNS
**would like to retire, but need another server to take over the DC,
DHCP, and DNS role (secondary)
ServerC: Pentium D 2.8ghz, 2gb memory SourceSafe DB here too
mirrored OS, raid5 array (500gb), space limitted here, but can
dynamically expand this array for more space. System Center
Operations Manager 2007 (maybe install here?) OCS 2007 installed
here (used memory at least 1800 MB of 2000)
I want to setup Systems Center Config Manager 2007 on one of these
machines.. I do realize it requires 2005 sql, which will add to the
overhead issue...
As of now, we dont make extra packages for the SMS app launcher.. we
just create packages which point to existing installs on our SMS 2003
server's app folder, where all the setups are..
Would I be ok to install SC Config manager on the same SMS 2003
server, even if i had to add 2gb of memory? Or could i fit it in
somewhere else?
I was also going to install System Center Operations manager on the
ServerC, since due to OCS, it has a sql 2005 instance already...
I also would like to put the Virtualization manager somewhere.. i see
us going virtual alot in the coming years.. I was thinking Backup01
would be a good candidate? Would backup01, then be suitable to be
turned into a "secondary" DC/DNS/DHCP server.. and retire the old
one? I know there were limiations on what servers could be the DC
role with certain apps..
I was also thinking of turning Backup01 into a virtual server 2005 ..
where would would house a virtual 2003 server to act as an "edge
server" for both Exchange 2007 and OCS (for live meeting requests from
offsite, non domain users)...
