Is there a page somewhere elaborating the differences between XP Backup and
SyncToy?

Is there any way to use Synctoy without having to install that .net frame?
It's an awful lot of MB's given I don't need it for anything else.....

Any other recommendations for any other free backup software?

Thanks for the help,
Janet

Ever run across the term "Google" in your Internet travels?

I posted only after Googling "XP Backup" + SyncToy + comparison. The many
entries that turned up did not produce the required information.

I see why you are called Uncle Grumpy.

lets start with the obious.........Synctoy is NOT a backup program. It will
keep 2 same named documents on 2 systems in sync with each other...meaning
if you change the file on one computer it will change the file on the other
computer
Backup will do just that.......backup files to a location of your chosing
usually in a compressed format. It can incrementally backup changed files.

For backup I recommend a drive imaging program such as Acronis True Image.
It does imaging on a drive, partition basis, and restores on a drive,
partition, folder or file basis. It also does incremental and differential
imaging, and file backup. It's not free but well worth it. The Home
version I've seen as low as $21.99 on Newegg.com. Image to an external
drive for a very effective and low cost backup and recovery solution.
