I want to activate this feature on a Dell 2400 computer I purchased a year
and half ago. The XP program was on the computer when I bought it. I either
did not get or lost the Windows XP CD. How do I go about doing this?

XP Home does not install the backup feature as you already know, it's
on the CD so... you need the CD. Time to call Dell and see what they
say. You'll need the CD sooner or later unless Dell has a restore
partition, if so it might contain the backup program or it might not.

You might consider a 3rd party backup program, there are several
available, Google will find them for you.

The CD is good to have if you can get it.

Until then, see this page:

http://www.winxptutor.com/ntbackup.htm

There is a link to download NTBACKUP.MSI there.

Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on XP
Home. If you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the CD, in
\ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by doubleclicking the
file ntbackup.msi.

If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi Also see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302894

Also note that, as backup software goes, what's included with Windows
XP is a poor choice. You'd be much better off choosing a third-party
solution, such as my favorite, Acronis True Image.
